Brief
- Hewlett Packard Enterprise appointed Aura Consulting to deliver the 13,000 sqft refurbishment of its London headquarters in the City of London. The brief was to modernise the existing workplace in line with HPE’s updated global portfolio look and feel, bringing the office into step with the standard set across the wider estate.
- Scope combined the interior refresh with targeted mechanical and electrical upgrades and the integration of existing building services to meet the new design and performance standards. The objective throughout was a refreshed, brand-aligned workspace that kept the functionality of the existing office environment intact.
Challenges
- Works In An Occupied Building – The refurbishment was delivered while staff continued to work and events continued to run. Aura worked with the client to set a balanced programme, scheduling works by level of noise and disruption so that progress held against key milestones without disturbing the business.
- Exposed Ceiling Design – The exposed ceiling design carried technical uncertainty, because the condition and configuration of the existing services could only be assessed once the ceiling was opened up. Aura managed this through close coordination and responsive planning, achieving the design intent within the limits of the existing building infrastructure.
- Distributed Project Team – HPE’s project team sat across several international locations. Aura established virtual working relationships and inclusive communication processes, keeping stakeholders engaged and their input captured whether or not they could attend site in person.
Highlights
- A Brand-Aligned Headquarters – The refurbishment introduced HPE’s updated portfolio look and feel, creating a contemporary City headquarters that reflects the company’s evolving brand identity, with existing services upgraded to meet the required standards.
- Distinctive Design Features – The scheme used a range of alternative design features, including exposed brickwork and interactive graphics across multiple surfaces, adding character and visual interest to the workplace.
- Collaboration Across Locations – Virtual stakeholder engagement was combined with effective on-site coordination, so international perspectives fed into key decisions while the works progressed in a live operational environment.
