CAREER HISTORY

Employment History

ABN AMRO Bank – Project Manager
June 2006 – September 2006 (contracting position)

During my short but busy time at ABN AMRO I worked on a number of projects and tasks that I enjoyed and that added valuable experience to my PM knowledge base. I was employed by ABN on a four month contract to project manage a £900k two floor fit-out, look after ‘day to day’ projects and create a forward/strategic planning team for all projects across the Bank. All my works were client facing and I was involved in the whole process from the first client meeting, through to the design and the build. I was also heavily involved in all purchasing, budgeting, client meetings/change and cost tracking throughout the project.

KPMG - Project Manager
August 2005 – April 2006 (contracting position)
I was assigned to the Large Projects team within the Facilities Department working alongside the Capital Projects, Real-Estate and Churn teams. The department’s lack of experience in running large projects quickly and efficiently meant that my time at KPMG was challenging, yet rewarding and highly enjoyable. I had the opportunity to run two large projects with a combined budget of over a million pounds which was a valuable learning experience.

Edinburgh - City Centre - Complete floor re-stack - £350k budget:
The brief for this project was to increase the third floor occupancy by over 10% and to create a more open plan feel. After discussions with the Edinburgh office Facilities Manager and many of the different client groups that occupied the floor, we formulated a plan to remove all the current furniture (250 positions) and install a benching system incorporating breakout and hot-desking areas. Due to the tight time scales we completed the works over three weekends back to back whilst keeping the floor live. The project was completed on time and under budget and exceeded the client’s expectations.

Birmingham - City Centre - Decant, churn and re-stack over three buildings - £650k budget:

The brief for this project was to completely decant one building (600 people, nine floors), move 300 people into a brand new building (PC running very late) and to totally re-stack another eight story building (700 people in occupation). In order for this project to complete on time, due to the drop dead date, I drew up a phasing schedule based on previous negotiations with the necessary departments, such as information technology, voice and cabling. The project was then executed on a back to back weekend programme of works over a two and a half month period. This was by far the most challenging and problematic project I have managed but was completed on time and under budget while keeping to the client’s expectations.

Goldman Sachs - Project Manager

June 2003 – August 2005

During my two years at Goldman Sachs I worked on a diverse range of projects with a wide variety of people and teams progressing from a junior member of staff to part of the senior projects team. This involved becoming a member of the forward planning/space management committee and has added to my project/moves management skill base and to my personal development. My roles and duties consisted of:

  • Managing projects for a quarter of the London client groups (£100 to £1.1m projects)
    • Project management from initial client request through to project completion/hand over
    • Client facing meetings to discuss scope, cost, time and financial tracking, project close out, snagging and project sign over
    • Liaising constantly with vendors and cost consultants to establish estimated cost (including write-off), time lines for proposed works and snagging/issues as project progresses
    • Financial tracking and reporting on an ongoing basis, where required involving a QS
  • Member of the forward planning/Space and Strategy management team for the London campus
    • Three meetings weekly to discuss current and up and coming space issues for all client groups
    • Working with the space team to develop space solutions for the immediate and long-term space strategy for all client groups and the London campus as a whole
    • Preparing business cases to re-occupy vacant space/buildings in order to support growing head count/client needs
    • Chairing and participating in meetings to discuss space with the relevant administrators/MDs and resolving multiple space issues between different administrators
  • Moves Manager/Coordinator for the London campus
    • 6,500 movers PA for the London campus
    • Mid week moves, large weekend moves, mid-day moves and project related moves
    • Floor shuffles, inter-floor and inter-building moves (five London buildings)
    • Client meetings to discuss moves and changes
    • Resolving adjacency and compliance issues
    • Vendor meetings to discuss moves and changes, general move scope and program
    • Financial planning/tracking against movers and spend
    • Occupancy updates and forecasting (including cost impact)

Relocom Ltd - Junior Project Manager / Moves Manager

January 2003 - June 2003

Junior Project Manager, working for a technology relocation company, specialising in providing a turnkey service. My role involved:

  • Working alongside the senior PM on twenty-five to two hundred and fifty person moves including:
    • Pre Sales
    • Assisting with compiling tender returns
    • Project plans and timescales
    • Planning logistics
    • Planning and documenting data and voice routes
    • Producing Visio drawings and post move documentation
    • ‘Hands On Management’ during project implementation

Morgan Stanley - Junior Project Manager / Moves Manager
July 2002 - December 2002 (6 Month contract)
London, Canary Wharf
As well as running day-to-day projects I was assigned to a cost saving project to evaluate the ‘Night Shift’ workings. This involved organising a voice recording testing team and an out of hours’ relocation team. This enhanced my ‘hands on’ technology engineering skills and cost saving awareness.

Glasgow, City Centre
Assisted the Senior Project Manager with a 350-person relocation (building to building). Tasks included producing project plans and implementation schedules, meeting with clients to discuss last minute changes, managing engineers and dealing with problems and general progression.

Other Experience
Before the above I worked as an assistant Project Manager for Border Graphics who were contracted to the Royal Bank of Scotland. Here my duties involved organising the PBX engineers for all the RBS buildings within London. Other duties involved making sure SLA’s were achieved, providing performance measurement reports, purchasing goods for the engineers and arranging out of hours moves.

EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

I studied Advanced IT at Cambridge Regional College for two years. While at college I had part time jobs within the project management/moves world which included assisting with large moves, cabling, patching, IT and furniture relocation and full floor strip out and re-fits.
